Chiropractic is a natural and holistic way of looking at the human body in its entirety, based on the fact that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The body is controlled by the brain via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves. When this system is not functioning at its peak, overall performance suffers.

In the chiropractic world, we don’t use pharmaceuticals to treat our patients. While supplementation and nutrition are often a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions are viewed as Band-Aids to treat symptoms, rather than treating the problem at its source. Chiropractic addresses the cause of the problem naturally by correcting vertebral subluxations (spinal misalignments), which in turn returns the Chi or full energy flow and signals the body to heal itself.

Many people think chiropractors just treat back and neck pain, but their capabilities are far greater in scope. Chiropractors treat soft and hard tissue problems like sciatica and joint pain, but many other health issues including chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, menstrual problems, stomach issues like hiatal hernia, IBS, headaches and so much more. Read the full list of treatment modalities and ailments here that Dr. Teshna can address and correct.

In addition to physical complaints and diseases, some Chiropractors like Dr. Teshna are trained in Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) to address the stress and emotional components that lead to physical and emotional/mental problems. We offer NET services in our office.

FAQs

What is a Vertebral Subluxation?

When a vertebrae becomes misaligned or moves out of its normal position, this is referred to as a vertebral subluxation. Subluxations can occur from physical causes, such as a minor slip or bump to a car accident or any sudden trauma to the body. They can also be caused by emotional and chemical stresses. When a vertebrae is subluxated, it begins to put pressure on nerves, blood and lymphatic vessels, and everything around the area. This pressure comes with a price. The subluxation interrupts the natural pathways of the messages sent between the brain and the rest of the body.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment, is the primary method used by Doctors of Chiropractic  to free up interference to the nervous system and restore proper alignment to the spine and cranium.

There are well over 100 types of adjusting techniques used by chiropractors throughout the world. They range from more forceful to very gentle. It can be done by hand or with various instruments. Regardless of how they are performed, these techniques are intended to correct spinal misalignments, restore nerve flow, which allows healing to occur, enhance joint function, and reduce pain and inflammation.

It has been a trusted form of treatment since the ancient Greek. Hippocrates documented adjusting techniques in his writings back in 1500 B.C.

Whether or not you have a condition or complaint, having a nervous system free of interference is essential.

In my office I use gentle instrument adjusting that feels like a light tapping on the vertebrae that need adjusting.

How Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Work?

When vertebrae shift out of place, there is an overall systemic response from the muscular system to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow, our nerves, our immune system, our organs, our muscles and our minds cannot function at their optimal level. Overall, spinal adjustments are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its optimal level without any discomfort. When the body is adequately aligned, it becomes able to respond and perform as it was designed to do.

Is Chiropractic Effective?

Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well and Chiropractic adjustments help restore the nerve flow. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference.

Why should I see a Chiropractor?

Everyone needs their nervous system function checked regularly just like you get dental or vision checkups. You can prevent problems by being free of nerve interference. Seeing a chiropractor is not only for back pain and neck pain. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body at its optimal performance through adjustments, nutrition and overall wellness advice. In addition, chiropractic care has been known to help a wide range of conditions from chronic fatigue to diabetes as well as many other physical complaints.

What can I expect from my chiropractic visit?

Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of us. Maybe we've heard through a friend or have done some research online. It's possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it's time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to the chiropractor will really be about getting to know the chiropractor and discussing your history, current condition and goals.

In our office we also perform an adjustment on the first visit.

What results can I expect from Chiropractic care?

If you've ever been in a car accident, played a sport, hit your head, fell down or just bumped into something too hard, it's very possible that you are not functioning at your best due to a misalignment. While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons. For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively or even just have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying conditions and diseases to appear. Allowing a chiropractor to get you back on track both structurally and chemically will bring your body back to the proper state it should be in to perform at its peak. I often compare subluxations to a “breaker” being off, preventing connection. As soon as the “breaker” is turned back on, one usually feels an immediate difference in the strength of a muscle that was previously weak.

My office addresses the stress/emotional component of physical complaints using Neuro-Emotional Technique, which helps people release stress quickly.
